Strange clicking noise

Driving to work earlier and this what I can only describe as a fast indicator noise started. When I put the indicators on the noise stopped. It is not a constant noise but happens more often that not. Opened the compartement where the fuses are and it seemed to be coming from there. Sorry, car is an L reg Xantia. Any idea's?

Common fault Jez. I think if you touch the indicator stalk to left or right (just a pressure rather than a movement really) you'll find it will stop. Cured the last one with a new stalk, not too expensive from Andyspares.
My current 1993 Xantia does it a few times every now and then.....when it gets more frequent I'll change it.
