Just Installed New Heater Fan In A 405.......

Post by SB1 »

Just finished installing a new heater blower fan in my 405 GTX 1995 model (with air-con) The new unit has a thin black wire with a black connector attached to it coming from the main wiring harness that has the thick black and thick red wires in it. With everything connected up the fan works....so does the air-con. Anyone know what the thin black wire is for ????
Also...while scrambling about in the footwell, under both front seats I appear to have wiring and connectors attached to the seat cushions. Would these be heated seats and if so where would the switches be ?.... or is it something to do with the seatbelt pre-tensioning system......I've had the car 3 years and never realised the wiring was under there !!!!!
Thanks in advance !!!!

Hi
The plugs under your front seats are the following.
Orange = Seatbelt pretensioners
Yellow = Electric seat motors
Brown = Heated seats
You cant get a 405 with seatbelt pretensioners & electric movement seats, You can get the front seats out of an STI & swop the frames & base over & attach the pretensioner bracket, Ive done this, Its a right sod to do & in my opinion its not worth doing.
The 405 heated seat are rubbish, the heaters burn out & the heater pad is again a sod to change & its not worth bothering with these either.
The heated seat switches are located below the rear electric window switches next to the handbrake, There should be 2 x green plugs for the switches.
No idea what the thin black wire is for on your blower fan, It might be for another model of Pug / Citroen, But as everythings working, dont worry abaout it.

Hi
Also if you look under the drivers seat you will find a black plastic cover held to the floor with 2 x 10mm nuts.
Under the cover is the alarm control box, alarm headlamp flasher realy & alarm diagnostic socket.
This is handy to know when the alarm starts blowing the 30 amp fuses in the fuse box [:D]

Cheers PowerLee...much obliged !!! The plugs under the seats (that are connected to the seat cushions) are brown....but I definitely don't have any switches in the centre console other than the rear windows and the cruise control on/off switch. I'll have a dig around and see if the plugs are there to take the switches but if the seat heaters are rubbish.....should I bother ??
Cheers for putting my mind at rest over the blower fan issue....it's gonna be a luxury in the morning not having to wallop the underside of the dash to get the blower working !!!

Hi
I now have in my hand a brand new Valeo 405 blower fan.
There is a thin black wire attached to the thick black wire thats plugged in to the fan & the other end of the thin black wire is then plugged into the fan next to one of the brackets with the screw hole in, next to the cut out in the fan body with the thick red & black wires in it.
Looks like you need to re attach the thin black wire to the fan.

The Brown & Yellow plugs under your seat will be clipped to a bit of plastic but will have nothing plugged in to them.
If you can get hold of a set of Executive leather seats cheaply, they come with seat heaters.
To test the heaters are working connect a multimeter accross the 2 terminals in the brown plug attached to the seat & see if there is a circuit of approx 1 ohm.
If theres no circuit the heater is dead.
The green plugs will be behind the lower set of switch blanks.

I forgot,
DONT unplug the Orange connectors with the ignition on or battery connected!
If you want to remove a front seat, shut the alarm down first, make sure you have the radio code & then dissconnect the battery, wait 10 minutes & the you can unplug the Orange connector.
DONT probe the Orange connectors with ANY kind of test meter either!
If you do it results in a BIG BANG. major expense & flashing airbag lights!
