The old Xantia Dash Design

Post by tonyb1 »

I was giving my mate a lift home tonight and he pointed to that bar that goes accross the dash facing him, and he said "what's that all about then?" He's got a point eh. I mean, apart from sticking a book behind it, what a waste of dash space. i was just wondering if any of the Forum can think of a better feature to put in it's place?! [:D]

It's a grab handle for spirited driving, isn't it?

A serious response? It's a cross body strut that reinforces the cabin across the bulkhead or firewall and stops it all rattling.
Alternatively my son uses it as a footrest, I hang the takeaway on it and my partner uses as a bookrest.
Any other suggestions? R

To me it is just a pathetic idea of creating some space if you don't have a passengers airbag! A bigger glove box would be far more appreciated!

debutant,i have passenger airbag,but the dash is same as one without.The airbag is below the handle.Theres just a smaller open space below the handle.
I think i read somewhere once on the press releases(through the links)that the handle was to aid passengers getting in & out.Also it was a bit "different".

The dashboard handle goes right back to the early prototypes;

..although they appeared to be considering a totally different design for the dashboard at one point.

It goes to show that Xantias can corner on rails and the passenger better get something solid to grab on or else he'll be bumping into the driver and we don't want that. [:D]
