Creaky brakes on '91 205 GT

Post by Jamesc »

Hi
I've been looking through the forums for something on this topic and can't find one so thought I'd post. On the 205 I've just bought, when I brake there is a really loud creak, coming from what sounds like the back of the engine towards the bulkhead on the drivers side.
It does this regardless of whether the car is stationary (with engine running) or braking from speed. The brakes themselves work 100% fine. So my questions are has anyone else heard this or heard of it? What could cause it and how do I prevent it as I'm getting odd looks from pedestrians.
Otherwise its a fantastic car and great to drive!
Thanks for any light anyone can shed on this.

I have not had this on my 205xs, but it sounds like the brake servo. You could try and get another from a scrapper to see. Should be quite straightforward to replace.

Double check anti roll bar bushes & engine mounts.
