My C3 1.4HDi has until now been a very reliable friend. I am very pleased with it's temper and fuel econnomy on my daily trip to and from work. It is comming up for it's first oil-change "service" and as it is getting close to the 1 year warenty limit I would very much like your oppinion to what may have caursed it to just recently develop a sound/tone.
It sort of a turbo sound, but you can only hear it from about 1000-1400rpm, the frequency rising with the number of revolutions. You can also feel a slight vibration thrugh the gear nob. It "plays" the tone always; in or out of gear, roling or standing still. It seems to originate from the left side of the engine, and not from the belt side. I was thinking fuel pump or simmilar, anyone had this problem with their HDi or has a qualified guess ?
I would very much like to hand the garage a written note to what they should look at, just in case I get into warenty discussions later on.
Thanks in advance

It's not the 16v (got a good offer on a demo with only 4000km)
The garage sorted the problem after several tries, including new turbo (which didn't help). It turned out it was the generator tensioner and the generator, which were then changed on the warrenty. I'm a little hyper sensitive about humming sounds now, and I seem to think theres still a slight sound at around 2000 rpm.. I'll be watching how that develops. Hopefully it's not the crank pully (good diagnosis though !!)
Otherwise I am also very pleased about my little darling ! Very smooth engine and very economic. Only problem is that it takes quite a while for it to warm the cabine this time a year and the hazzle changing bulbs !

I recently had my crankshaft pulley replaced on my xsara hdi mainly due to the tapping noise I had heard on acceleration and paranoia. I had a go at it myself but damn that pulley bolt was on tight, got my local mech to have a go with his air gun, knife through butter. The pulley had started to 'move' a bit but the ticking/tapping noise is still there so its probably the weepy injector thing that Ive heard about on here before. Better to be safe than sorry though eh!?
