I am thinking about starting a new project Xantia
I have seen a car I like but there are some issues . firstly the drivers door looks to have dropped slightly. when you close you can feel it jump up and the catch plate is heavily worn.
The hinges I see are welded is this just worn hinge pins? I tried to lift the door but it didn’t look to move at all.

The engine is a 2.0 i petrol and it sounds OK but there is a loft of oil around the rocker its only done 90,000 miles
apart from hydraulics is there any issues to look at,
any advice would be welcome

I'm afraid I can't offer any practicle tips here as I have only had one Xantia, an Activa, which I only had for 6 months and so no time for niggles to show up. I'm sure our Xantia enthusiasts will be able to give you some good advice

Is it an estate? The car mounted part of the hinge was welded to a structural reinforcement inside the outer panel, and the weld needed to penetrate right through to fuse all three bits together. The cars seemed to be mostly OK, but the coachworks that assembled the estates often failed to make a satisfactory weld. If there is a repair weld there already, it sounds like a second failure.

Note, never use a jack, if/when the car sinks it will damage the door (hence the wedge method)

yes it was an estate , I will have a look again at the door hinge, it didnt look like a reweld
