My ZX 1.9d temptation r-reg has just started displaying the warning light which indicates 'front brake pad wear' thing is it was serviced about a month ago and the pads were fair enough and i drive on the A1, 80 miles a day and was thinking is it still safe to drive.

WORN FRONT BRAKES WARNING LIGHT
Moderator: RichardW
Oh better mention aswell, i was braking hard coming back from a place about 10 mins away with a mate so obviously we were listening to the music as they say. So im thinking maybe its displayed cause they were hot (strange burning smell always happens, when reving a little harder and braking harder, so maybe thats what set it off

If the lights on then it indicates the pads are worn. There is probably a couple of miles left enough to pick up a set and fit them, but it's still worth checking them. Had the light come on in my ZX td once checked the pads all OK but the wiring from them had pulled out of the pad and so earthed them causing the light to come on. Best to check any way. Other thing is , its not the low fluid level light is it?

Well the pads were absoutly fine, some of the covering for the wire had come away and was touching the area of the disc, so ive pvc'd up the area and its fine, sadly though the rubber/plastic block which holds the two connectors (Above the brakes) has melted quite a bit, which would explain the burning smell i get after harsh braking. Can anyone suggest why this block would begin to melt, is it because so much heat was being passed through the exposed wire which transferred into the block thus causing it to heat up. Im not great with cars like.

Cars like what?
The current through the wires would be no different to that when the pads were worn down to the sensors - just enough for the bulb.
Only source of heat is the brake disc itself - are your brakes binding? Caliper stuck? Do you indulge in a lot of 'harsh braking'? Feel front wheels after a run - should both be about the same. Sticking calipers are not unknown on ZX.

Thanks, Kowalski! [:D][:D] Can't say I have ever heard Gazza say anything, although I did see a picture of him weeping profusely once.
Thought it was something like the old BX ad - you know 'loves driving, hates garages', like.
Mike - campaigner for a move to make all English speakers utter sentences without using the words 'like' and 'basically' unless they mean 'like' or 'basically' [}:)] I appreciate that this strange dialect is now taught at all unis now.
