Wierd electric on my Citroen c4 grand 2011 semi auto

Unread post by Leanne »

When we purchased the vehicle the dash screen had got a malfunction and couldn't see the bottom half of the screen after several attempts with the replacement of it/or something else, the garage got it fixed and then it was a drama to get the bluetooth to work.
When this was sorted we had 2000 miles (well nearly) then a wierd thing started occurring. If left for 12hr/24hrs of not driving when turned the ignition on the screen flashed, loosing all its memory if date and time. This happened several times until the next thing......the gearbox refused reverse, I had to ask it twice and then it went in and off we went. Well that issue became a whole lot worse and eventually it mostly said no to going into a gear, then would go in, then wouldnt go in again.
It went to a main dealer as no one wanted to look at it due to the semi auto gearbox and they then said the actuator had had it and the gearbox.
Now this may well be the case, but I do wonder if some other electrical thing is going on.
Since it has come back from the dealers it is going in and out of gears happy enough. But I do wonder for how long.
So what the devil could be going on with it?

I would check the condition of the battery. If you can connect a multimeter across the battery on 20V DC scale and then check the following votages:
1 Everything turned off and cold, should read a minimum of 12.7V
2 Operate the starter and measure the voltage while cranking. ideally it should be above 11.9V
3 Take the reading with the engine running should be in the 13.8-14.5 range
4 Take the static reading after switching off the engine
5 Turn on the ignition without starting the engine and take a reading
6 with the ignition on turn on the main beam headlights and take a reading
7 in addition turn on the heated rear screen and take a reading.

Taking all those figures together will give a good idea of the condition of the battery as a first step to checking the electrics. Good luck :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Thankyou.
I shall do this at the weekend when husband and I are together, so we can do this, as a couple of tests will need two of us.
I did have to charge the battery before I moved it to load on the transporter (yes it went in to gear that time) as it wouldnt start and battery was to low after sitting for 4weeks. Which I suppose isnt a good thing in itself 🤔
