fuel rail pressure issue error code P0193 in a 1.6hdi Citroen Berlingo (2007)

Unread post by horizon00 »

Hi I'm hoping someone could help me with this. I have had a recurrent fault with my car which shows P0193. I get an anti-pollution fault message appear and the ECU makes the car out/ goes into limp mode when I'm driving usually at speed or during/just after acceleration. I have to pull over, turn the engine off wait and then. The car will then start and generally drive ok, the engine warning light will be on and I'll get the same anti-pollution warning come up when I start the car but then after a few days this will go away. The fault will then reoccur 2-7 days later and the cycle repeats.

I have changed the fuel filter and then also the rail pressure sensor, neither of these has resolved the issue. Previously I was also getting P0087 but that has disappeared since I replaced the filter and sensor.

I bought a basic obd bluetooth scanner and connected it with an app and have been able to monitor what's going on when this fault occurs. What seems to happen is that before the fault occurs there are large discrepancies between the readings for 'fuel pressure' and 'fuel pressure commanded'. 'Fuel pressure' shoots up suddenly to a max reading of 1824 bar while 'fuel pressure commanded' stays in the normal range.

Any help would be really appreciated. I'm not a mechanic and am just learning about all of this. From my research it seems that it's most likely to be either a problem with the wiring/harness or possibly the fuel pressure regulator but any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome, to the forum.
Hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on your problem.
However, I wouldn't ignore the first code P0087, as that and P0193, both relate to fuel pressure problems, even though you say the first is no longer there.
Simple question, does your car behave the same without the fuel cap in place ?

Hi, thanks a lot for getting back to me.

I'll definitely keep the P0087 is in mind, even though it hasn't appeared with the more recent faults and I can keep checking to see if appears again. I'll have a go at running it with the fuel cap removed and see if it makes any difference. Thanks
