Stiff gear change on 98 306 td

Post by caeclyd »

Dear all,
On my 306 td I have noticed that the gear selection is gradually getting stiffer. This occurs at all tempreatures as I originally thought it was down to cold g/box oil
I have sprayed wd40 on the linkages visable in the engine bay with no improvement.
The gears do not Crunch & I don't think the clutch is on the way out @ 41,000 miles.
Any Ideas ?
Rory.

Hi Rory - First - is the clutch adjustment set correctly, ie 150mm (+/- 5mm) of pedal travel.

John,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes,clutch travel correct as per haynes manual.
One thing I have noticed though (from new) the clutch pedal has, on occasion, not come back to its correct "rest" setting. I have had to place my fott under the pedal to pull it up. This is a rare occurance. I did query it with the local Peugeot dealer and they said it was a common fault & is nothing to worry about!

Hi Rory - If you are satisfied that all the linkages are sufficiently lubricated, then I suggest you have a look at Dave Burn's reply in "Xantia Lazy Clutch" dated 3 July in the Citroen section. Can I take it that you've checked the gearbox oil level?
