C4 front brake caliper slider rubbers/guides

Unread post by Must be Mad »

Sorry if this has been covered before my car is 2103 C4 HDI.

The front calipers were seized and would not slide.

I ordered a set of new pins and rubbers meant to be vehicle specific from fleabay but brakeparts.co.uk are the seller/supplier.

Pins new and shiny hey socket rathe than Torx am fine with that and little sachet of silicone grease all good so far.

The rubber boots are both the same soft rubber, but the ones on the car were different the lower guide sleeves had what i now think is a nylon insert that attached to rubber via castellations.

I have read someplace that fitting only rubber boots the caliper will seize up again and needs the firmer nylon bush to take the loads, is this correct anyone any experience with this?

I have fitted one side all seems fine caliper slides lovely but concerned from what i have read before i fit the other side.

Checking genuine ATE part numbers it would appear there is 2 numbers for the rubber/guides, has the kit i bought bene trash and not supplied correct parts?

Is the car safe like this or do i need to remove the all rubber type?

I'd contact Frentech and ask their opinion on this one: https://frentech-uk.co.uk/products/guide-pin-kits :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

FrenTech advised they have been superseded by the all rubber types, but ATE still list them as spares so will try them out and see if they work seem ok and slide fine the caliper was never meant to be rock sold its designed to have some float the real energy is the pads that act on the carrier hence the big bolts to the hub
