Centreless wheel balance

Unread post by trapa57 »

Hello everyone,

I realise this question (or similar) has been raised before but it would be helpful to get up to date responses. Can anyone recommend a tyre fitter/outlet who will balance Xantia centreless wheels in Leeds, or even in West Yorkshire? I ask as my efforts to find a suitable tyre fitter/outlet in Leeds this year have drawn a blank.

Thanks, in advance,

Paul

Evans Halshaw Citroen in Leeds do tyres, maybe drop them a line, see if they can do it?

Try one of your local little tyre fitters, they usually have the experience and knowledge, it's not an unusual thing.

It is very unusual to find a fitter who can correctly balance Xantia centreless wheels. It usually takes 2 or 3 attempts with a run to the motorway between each interation.

The problem is that the universal jigs centre the wheels on the studs, but the Xantia wheels must be centred on the hub ring. If the wheel isn't perfectly centered the balance will never be correct.

I need one balanced now, I had a pair of tyres fitted recently in France and the balance was terrible. On inspection one of the wheels had 60g of weights on the outside and 30g on the inside. As an emergency measure I just pulled off all the weights and the balance is near perfect. I would like it done properly, but I am in Cambridge.

Might be worth giving Chevronics a ring about that Mike, if they don't do it themselves, they must know someone who does I'd have thought? :)

It wouldn't be too difficult to have a centreless wheel adapter plate made up for a Xantia wheel - even incorporating a short cone to mount onto the wheel hub ring. The problem comes with trying to find a tame garage willing to undo the end shaft of their wheel balancing machine to mount the adapter plate. 8-[

Yes, some Citroen dealers had a proper centering adapter, but I don't know of any that still have one.

There were some ATS tyre places near me who could balance centreless wheels but they appear to all be closed now.

They did that on the quiet.
I prefer Sailun tyres, hard to obtain now, used to get them from Oponeo and have them fitted locally. Have changed to Toyo's now.

A long time since I was last at an ATS.
