oil level plug on gearbox

Unread post by thomasoes »

Hi. Was wondering if any one knows if my picasso c3 2014 hdi 1.6 exclusive has a oil level plug were I can fill the gearbox up instead of taking battery off and box out and moving ecg out the way to get to the top filler plug which I have done on an older picasso I had but I was told its faster to use the oils level plug but cant find one on mine . Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Tom

Can you confirm which gearbox you have? :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I have a C3 Picasso HDi Exclusive too, manufactured in September 2010. I've changed the gearbox oil and it's pretty easy to do.

To drain : The gearbox drain plug, shown circled in yellow, is visible once the under-engine tray is removed from the bottom of the car. Undo the drain plug with a Halfords Square Drain Plug Key 8mm 3/8", or similar and drain the gearbox oil into a pan or basin below. Once drained, about 2L or so, put the nut back in, tighten gently, and clean the surface with brake cleaner.

To fill: The gearbox in mine has an inspection/level hole behind the passenger front wheel (NSF), marked with yellow in the photos. You can jack the car up, remove the front left wheel, undo the gearbox inspection bolt and fill from there. Assuming your car is still reasonably level on the jack, fill until the oil comes out. Put the nut back in and tighten gently, say 10Nm at most. Clean with brake fluid, mark as required. I used a 500ml syringe (Sealey Tools - Oil Suction Syringe 500ml Metal Body [AK46]) and Citroen spec gearbox oil and it worked perfect.

Hope this helps!

Mine is just a 5 speed gearbox so I am hoping its same as barney rubble so I will be taking wheel off to have a look. thye bolt you highlight on the lower right were the smooth part of the box joins om mine at the front middle of the smooth outer box mine has a nut in which doesn,t do anything I wonder if that could be my level plug .I may take it out to see .I had a 2011 c3 picasso and had to take the battery box out which is a pain. Thanks for you time and I will certainly check on my passenger side and thanks for photos.

Greatly apreciated. Tom
