Clutch pedal issue C4GP 2015 2.0HDI

Unread post by Dazzler_75 »

Hi, have an issue with the clutch pedal on my C4GDP 2.0HDI 2015. Crunchy selecting gear then when managed to get in gear I couldn't then get it out of gear and had to stall the engine. Noticed pedal was not fully returned and had to pull up with my foot. This keeps happening, the pedal was making a creaking noise I noticed all of a sudden a few days ago and just assumed it was a dry linkage of some sort. A quick Web search shows there appears to be a known issue with the clutch master cylinder and possibly a technical bulletin or recall of some sort. I've rang a few dealers and even Citroen UK, all have no idea what I'm on about and just want me to booking and diagnose. 1st issue here is the car is undriveable. Is this a thing and is there some kind of Technical bulletin that they will only divulge after spending on some diag work? Appreciate any help or advice.

I have heard of this type of issue with the master cylinder and if you search Youtube for C4 Master Cylinder replacement you may get some ideas :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

As a first step check if the brake fluid level is low as the clutch pedal take off is higher up than for the brakes.

Then bleed the clutch cylinders, best way I have found is to suck the brake fluid through the slave cylinder bleed screw as pedal pushing is not that effective. When doing this keep the reservoir level high since if it drops below the take off air will be sucked through.

Obviously check in the footwell for fluid leaking out of the master cylinder and also the slave cylinder as the seals do wear out. I have found when bleeding the cylinders as part of the brake fluid change every 2 years the fluid is a bit black from bits of rubber. If they are leaking then they need replacing.

Moved to Citroen

Likely to be the master cylinder.
