hi All,
waiting 2 weeks or more to get access to berlingo forum but to no avail.
so hoping someone here can help.
just bought myself a "new to me" 2015 berlingo multispace xtr blue hdi 120 with start stop
all the bad things, euro 6 ad blue eolys tank, but cool storage compartments. always an upside...
one lady owner and 50000 miles/81000 km on the clock.
no service history to speak off.
warning spanner on dash.
reeks of dog.
not cleaned to any great degree since purchase.
couple of dings.
steering felt a bit dead.
this is ireland, and "high spec" version of these cars/vans are rare as rocking horse shi.....
low miles even rarer again. cost of cars here is so high here, people drive them till they are way up the clock.
paid the lady a fair price, a dealer offered her 4000 euro, i paid 5000 euro. she had it advertised for 6000.
work done so far -
nearly 2 days of cleaning. it's cleaner, but i think i need to start looking at wet dry vacs...
2 of the 4 filters done (air/oil filter and oil change) cabin and fuel filter this weekend hopefully.
hooked up a delphi ds150e with Autocom 2021.
surprised it had a clean bill of health on egr, dpf and adblue/eolys faults.
the remaining faults smell of needing a new battery.
my pre purchase inspection technique needs a bit of work however...
noticed when changing oil that there is grease all over the lower suspension arm.
so at best the cv boot is ripped on outer offside right driveshaft.
car pulls slightly to the left, and the steering seems a bit dead and heavy.
not expecting ferrari stuff but it seems quite heavy compared to my 2007 fiat doblo
question 1 - any tips or suggestions to prove its a driveshaft issue or just a torn boot?
question 2 - if it is a boot issue, any brand preferred?
question 3 - is the driveshaft different for my gearbox (BVM6) than the 5 speed versions of the car?
back brake is rubbing. so need to replace pads. discs look ok, and have no ridge at top.
question 4 - is back brake disc and pads same on all b9 berlingos?
headunit is the touchscreen 7 inch version.
works but apple carplay freezes. its troublesome connecting with bluetooth. clock in headunit does not keep time.
question 5 - how can i tell the firmware version? i've read pressing the menu button for 5 to 7 seconds should bring it up but that does not seem to work for me.
the start stop feature does not work. i very much doubt its been turned off or any ecu mods have been done.
question 6 - does the start stop not working smell of weak battery to you? eco mode deactivating it ? thought clearing fault would make it return but it did not
question 7 - does anyone use AGM battery instead of EFB?
like all noobs, i am very confused about diagbox/lexia. i believe that my car is just of the vintage that everything went online. i think 7.62 is the "known" good version for offline world.
question 8 - does that mean running diagbox 7.62 is of no use to my car? could i find out the firmware version on the headunit for instance?
question 9 - if i have to breach the 7.62(?) barrier am i then in a "you have to pay" to interact with lexia/diagbox?
question 10 - i see access to build sheets is hampered . if anyone can still get them i'd be really really grateful. love seeing stuff like that. its a pretty high spec car.
i've loads more questions, but if anyone feels like throwing a "yes" "no" "go away" at any of the above questions i'd be very grateful.
i've found the wealth of videos online about the engine brilliant. the DPF king got me over the hump of "new to me" PSA connector types.

With regard to the build sheets you will need to post your VIN, which will be obscured from public view, in order for one of the members with access to be able to help.
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Stop/start to work needs the battery to be fully charged so a long run a couple of hundred miles or use a charger. However, as ours is never charged enough it rarely works which I see as a blessing so the starter lasts longer and possibly also the battery.
The spanner on the dash just means it is due or overdue its service. It will say in the handbook how to reset it but is often hold down a button on the dash, turn the key so the dash lights up, watch it count down to =0 and let go of the button. You can then start the car. If you press the trip miles button on the dash it will give the distance to the next service.

thanks. Thought the battery was culprit. Not overly worried, safe to assume it’s on original battery.

My bad. The spanner was light up, but so was the warning exclamation mark. Checked codes and all seemed to be battery related stuff. Cleared them One return of codes, which again I think is battery. No light on dash. Have to try decipher Diagbox to see what’s happening with battery while engine on. Standard obd isn’t connecting with ecu so not able for live tests

Driveshaft - if there's no clonking of knocking from the joint you may well get away with washing the joint out and repacking with grease. I've never been a great fan of split or stretch boots, it's not that hard to pop the joint off the shaft. Otherwise, complete replacement driveshafts aren't very expensive.
Battery - best tested using an actual battery tester rather than a voltmeter or the diagnostics.
Steering - check the power steering fluid level.

Thanks, I hear no clunking or knocking. I’ll go try tight loops in a car park today see if I hear anything.
I’ve a feeling that’s is been a boot replacement before. Car went through its Irish MOT in January and no mention of drive shafts boots leaking. So leaning towards drive shaft replacement. If I’m in that deep, and it will take me all day, I’d prefer to just renew drive shaft. Our AI overlords has me questioning drive shaft type, and whether the joint will pop off at all. AI was very insistent that’s is a different length to 5 speed model, and that all the parts webpages were listing 5 and 6 speed drive shaft. I’ll see if I can confirm.

Thanks. New Lidl tool purchase justified for me

Great and simple idea. I’ll check that out. That’s very much

If you do not find a power steering fluid tank then it probably has electric power steering.
I would check if the timing belt has been replaced since it is usually 10 years or a mileage but at 50k miles in your case it will be 10 years.

timing belt. booked in with main dealer - €990 euro , labour oem parts and coolant flush. no vacancy until first week of july.
i'm watching far too many videos online and half thinking of doing it myself. looks doable, but i tend to bit off more than i could chew...
thanks for reply
