Limp mode?

Hi all,

I have a C5 x7 2.0hdi from 2012 and today while overtaking from 40km to 80km/h the car showed an error " engine failure stop the car" but it was gone in 2 secs and there is no light on dashboard, the car feels sluggish under acceleration but that's it, no other symptoms.

Is this now in limp mode? I have a generic scanner but does not show any errors

How many miles has the vehicle done?
Has the PAT fluid (Eolys) ever been topped up?
Has the DPF been cleaned or replaced?

My first thought is that the back pressure across the DPF was momentarily higher than normal but that it quickly sorted itself out. This might be especially likely if you don't normally take the car for a sustained (~20 minutes) drive at about 50 - 60 mph to burn off the combustible soot in the DPF. If you haven't already done it I would suggest such a journey.

You really need a high end diagnostic machine, preferably Diagbox, to interrogate the car for stored error codes (DTCs)

I do drive around 50km every day on average on main roads where I can go up to 100km/h, the car as now 270k KMS and only have the car for 6months, as far as I know no SPF was changed

Is that a steady speed or up and down to get there? It needs a fairly continuous speed in order to be able to burn off soot.

As already said, the car needs the DTCs reading. But first take it for continuous run when the engine and exhaust are at working temperature.

Mostly steady at 90/90km/h weekends I go for bigger drives but I get what you saying I'll see if I can get it to a garage if this issue persist it was just odd that no light was in the dash
