Xantia hydraulic pump

Post by G0AOZ »

The pump appears to be leaking around the pipe connection nearest to the pulley. Before I take this connection apart, I'd like to know what I'm up against first. The pipe is secured with a 12mm boss into a larger union (19mm) which in turn screws into the pump body. Hydraulic fluid is leaking from around the 19mm union (or whatever it's called). This union is not loose, so I'm assuming it either has a olive or an O ring underneath it which has failed in some way.
Can someone tell me or describe the part that seals this connection please, before I take it apart and probably render the car undriveable until it's fix!

Anders, thanks for that info. I've not found an index to the numbered parts on that diagram, but my guess is that Nbrs 3, 4, 5 and 6 form part of a non-return valve, with Nbr 2 possibly being a rubber O ring seal.

A local hydraulic so-called specialist firm looked at it and said, "Oh they all leak like that - just replace the pump." Yeah, right! He's not the one who has to put his hand in his pocket to replace the pump YET AGAIN, after only three years. I'd have thought a replacement O-ring would have been worth a shot if I could get one of the right size.
Anyone any thoughts on this...

Replacement 'O' rings are available from citroen.
I had mine replaced by citroen authorised agent while I had rear spheres replaced at no extra charge.(note! at authorised agent rather than main dealer).

Er, Ravi - you seem to have posted this message as a reply to several other posts, and also in your profile under 'hobbies'!
No need to use textspeak - we do not charge by the letter or for capitals - 'you please' is much more readable than 'u pls' [:D][:D]
What catalogue is it that you are looking for? What countries would you be able to buy a car from?

i found that if you take off the rubber feed (?) pipe from the tank, it reduces the amount of LHM spillage when the unions are taken off.
i also do this if i'm changing a pump or regulator as it acts as a kind of syphon.

I think the same union on my pump leaks a tiny bit. When the engine is running tiny little bubbles are visible. I have always kept an eye on the LHM levels and this leak, although it obviously leaks a tiny bit (after 10 years the pump has old LHM over it) I have only ever topped up the reservoir once (a we bit too much actually) about 2 years ago. On the other Xantia I bought for spares the pump looks exactly the same, old LHM down the front of it.
As far as I am aware, unless its leaking fast and the reservoir level is dropping and requries topping up, ignore it, I do and it seems to work ;).
