I have expert van 2020 and when i go to start it nothing happens, so i have been jump starting it ie leaving it on a hill, But I noticed yesterday at the traffic light i forgot to switch off the start/stop function, and its switched off and thought it wont start again but when i pressed clutch in it started !
So im thinking starter is fine and I have checked the obvious fuses

When you said 'jump starting' I take it you meant 'bump starting' ?
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

When you are trying to start it are you pushing the clutch pedal down, some cars need this ? Has it always been like this ?

Hi
When in the stop start mode it uses the reversible alternator to restart the engine and not the starter motor.
I posted the same on your post on the Peugeot Forums

My understanding is it has one or the other? what would be the point of fitting a reversible alternator and a starter motor?tricoloured wrote: 06 Apr 2026, 23:16

Remember starter motors can go intermittent (sticky brushes) you could give it a whack & it starts 5 or 6 times in a row then nothing.
You really need to confirm if power is getting to the starter solenoid when you turn the key.
And yes we need to clarify are you jump starting or bump starting?

Re: Peugeot expert stop/start
My 2018 Expert van 2.0Hdi DW10FC has both a traditional starter off the key and the reversible alternator for stop start, I found it a little unusual at first but when I looked it up Valeo designed it for either way, it would explain why Conord's van is starting in stop start mode but not off the key if it's a starter motor issue.

Hi Bobby
Thanks for your reply I’ve never heard of a reverse start alternator , but this would make sense is there any handy way of knowing if there is a reverse alternator

Re: Peugeot expert stop/start
You can usually tell as it sounds almost silent on startup, you can barely hear it as there is no pre engagement of the starter with the ring gear.
I know i used to 2020 Vivaro (a re badged Expert) for about 6 months and it was definitely a single starter, this was a 1.5 DV5 engine though.

Re: Peugeot expert stop/start
Hi
When it's a reversible alternator/starter it usually has 2 ancillary belt tensioners as when it's doing either function the tension changes sides, when it's in charging mode the crank is pulling on the alternator but when it's in starting mode the alternator pulls on the crank if that makes sense.
A standard alternator usually only has 1 belt tensioner.
Cheers
