Hello!
I've been driving a Citroen c5 aircross 1.5HDI 131hp automatic for 6 months, the car has had a chain and 8mm shafts replaced and belts and rollers serviced, Continental water pump
Shortly after starting the car, a "whining" starts from the timing belt (the mechanic told me that the belt was overtightened (but the tensioner was automatic and is centered) and now I'm wondering if the whole problem is from the brand of the timing kit...
Here's a video:

Re: 1.5 HDI Timing belt
Sounds like belt not running true, I would take the covers off and check for wear marks on the belt route
Thanx to all the admins & knowledgeable people that make this the best forum on the interweb. BUT COME BACK MARC , We miss you!

Re: 1.5 HDI Timing belt
It sounds a bit like our 1.5 hdi which still has the 7 mm chain and original timing belt. We had our dealer check it and it has had the recall to check for noises and they say it is normal.

Re: 1.5 HDI Timing belt
I wouldn't call it a whining. Unless I'm listening to the wrong noise it sounds to me like a purring or cyclic rubbing noise. No further ideas what it might be though.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.
