2018 CITROEN C4 PICASSO 1.6HDI ECOMONY MODE

Unread post by WELSHVIKING »

Hi, Not been on here for a while but part exchanged my wife's 2019 C3 Aircross for a 2018 Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6hdi only 9990 miles on the clock as owned by an elderly couple since new and full Citroen service history. The issue we have is after we purchased it and got home we found out it was going into economy mode all the time, the garage we bought it from was down in Newbury and they kindly agree to purchase a new Bosch Agm battery which we got delivered in October 25 and had the battery fitted and matched to the car. However it is still going into economy mode a lot. There are no codes showing and the stop / start function is working its just the economy mode which is driving us crackers. We had an older 2014 C4 Picasso which never did this. Is this Economy mode thing an issue with the later model C4 Picassos. Thanks Colin

It sounds like you have an excessive drain on the battery when all is switched off. Do you have a multimeter? :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Then with the car turned off disconnect the negative lead from the battery and set your meter on its highest current range, then connect the black lead to the negative battery terminal and the red lead to the end of the battery cable you removed. If you are showing a current above about 200mAmps then you have a drain.

If so you need to leave the meter connected and then remove each fuse one at a time and see when the reading drops below 250mA. That will identify which circuit is giving you trouble and further investigation will depend on which circuit it is. Don't forget you have fuse boxes under the bonnet and under the dash board. Good luck :)

Once you have completed the tests reconnect the battery and carry out the BSI reset as described here:

The length of time before economy mode kicks in is dependant a few things. I believe you have to drive the vehicle for at least half an hour uninterrupted by switching off in order to have the maximum of half an hour before economy mode starts. So, short drives will not give a long period of non-economy mode.

Thanks Paul, My wife has drove to Liverpool and back as she does every Friday night (Bingo with her relatives) and it goes into economy mode Saturday or early Sunday (not all the time though). Its a a very strange one as went on holiday a few weeks ago only for 6 nights and left the car on JetParks 3 in Manchester airport came back and everything was fine, no economy mode showing.

It's not really a problem, it is designed to do this to protect the battery. It switches off as soon as the engine is started. As Paul says it can be a bit random when it comes on, but you only have to leave a door open for a few mins for it to kick in.
