My 2012 DS5 Hybrid 2.0 threw up an engine fault yesterday, with code U1288 showing on my OBD reader which is fairly generic to do with a CAN Hybrid Network fault.
It still drives with the diesel engine but is sluggish moving off, presumably as the electric motors aren't helping it, but I can also drive it in electric mode so they are working and the battery is still charging.
It seems to be the transition between the two modes that can't happen. If I start in electric and switch to Sport, there is a strange 'whirring' noise (technical term) in front of the driver like something is trying to spin up, and then it throws the engine fault again.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a likely culprit?
Thanks

What OBD reader are you using? I suspect that you'll need a fairly high end diagnostic machine, preferably Diagbox, to get all the error codes (DTCs). Once we have them all we can start to look at possibilities.

Only a simple one with the Car Scanner ELM OBD2 app. Was just hoping someone might be able to explain what connects the 2 motors as a starting point before I take it to a garage for full diagnostics.Paul-R wrote: 24 Mar 2026, 11:53 What OBD reader are you using? It turned out to be the high voltage alternator (part 9676536980), and unfortunately they're £2,200 from the manufacturer. One on ebay for £670 but struggling to find a garage that will go near the high voltage system, will install second hand parts, and can programme it afterwards!Paul-R wrote: 24 Mar 2026, 11:53 What OBD reader are you using? Seeming like the car is going to end up being scrapped which is such a shame.

That doesn't surprise me, I bet if you ordered it, they would say its on back order! Manufacturers want you to replace the car not the faulty part.Bagabeans wrote: 15 Apr 2026, 19:07.............unfortunately they're £2,200 from the manufacturer. .........
As above, but not just high voltage parts, the garage will need to guaranty the work, and won't want to waste time fitting possibly faulty parts.Bagabeans wrote: 15 Apr 2026, 19:07....... struggling to find a garage that will go near the high voltage system, will install second hand parts, and can programme it afterwards!
