C5R Wiring Loom Routing Thru Body

Unread post by Percy Veerer »

I am attending to significant rust damage to the bottom joint between the inner and outer sills. The plastic outer sill covers are easy to remove and give access to the outer side of the joint, but removal of the underbody covers protecting the various pipes so that I can get to the inner side of the joint have been problematic. The half dozen or so weld studs that fix their edges have mostly sheared off when attempting the remove the nut/ washer on them.
I'm considering re-attaching the covers at the same locations as the studs using pilot drilled, short, self tapping screws driven up thru the floor pan / inner sill . However there may be wiring running from front to rear in the region of the sill joint that could get damaged by this or by long term contact with the tip of the fastener.
I cannot find any diagrams that show the routing of the front to rear wiring loom and wish to avoid the big task of removing the seats, trims and carpet to find where the loom runs.
I'm hoping that one of you who knows the car inside out can give me definitive information on where the wiring loom is or advice on a proven alternative arrangement for re-fixing the underbody covers at these locations or help with how to remove the door seal rubbers so that I might easily remove the trims and peel back the carpet edge to see what lies beneath?
Your help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

This is the diagram of the loom routings for a 2006 car. I hope it helps: :)

When I fit a towbar to our C5 I ran the front to back wires along the left side sill next to the loom inside the car. Access was by pulling up the door opening seal at the lower edge, removing some plastic covers (can not remember much about this, it was 14 years ago), then the carpet has plastic hooks which hold it to the sill top joint so it needs lifting up at the edge and not pulling sideways. On our Cactus we had one of the underfloor cover studs break so I used a bolt from the inside through the stud hole rather than trying to weld another on.

Thanks to both of you who responded so promptly to my query. It does help me to progress, particularly the routing diagram. I'll assume that the route along beside the offside sill is the same as the nearside sill shown, and they both remain above the floor except thru the rear passenger footwell and proceed with caution when working on this area.

If you are going to be welding the sill seam at the bottom then I would lift the carpet at the sides and check the wiring loom. You might want to move the loom and carpet out of the way in case the welding heat damages them.
