When I first bought my car, I filled it up with some fuel. When I was about to put the nozzle into the tank, I noticed a circular piece of green plastic. Before I knew it, it slipped down into the tank. If I look inside, I can see that it has broken off and was used as some kind of flap.
1. Does this flap serve any purpose, or is it purely to remind people to only put unleaded fuel in?
2. I've also noticed a little switch, that gets slight pressed in when you put the filler cap on. What's this for?

That flap should be to stop any forgenien matter falling in to the tank (ironic or what) should have been spring loaded though. As for the little switch I'm still unsure what its for. My old VTR has the same but seems to do nothing. I think that it may light up the open door light on the dash if you leave it off, but evey time I go for a test of this theory I forget and end up mowing the lawn or simalar.
