C5 x7 wipers new problem
Hi. Recently the wipers on my 2010 c5 x7 exclusive refused to work. I checked the fuses and magnets as described in another post.all were good. In the end a scrap master motor was obtained. Fitted and seemingly solved the issue. However when I took it out on the road today the wipers worked for about 10 minutes then suddenly the passenger side stopped and the master (drivers side) went to the upright park position. It still worked when I hit the stalk but only went half way down the screen at double speed then back to park. I was able to get to my destination safely and parked up. When I returned to the car they were not responding at all but after 2 minutes of driving they decided to play ball. Both wipers worked, reset themselves and continued to work for about 10 minutes before the same thing happened. I’ve started a new topic here because I haven’t seen this issue described anywhere else. Does anyone have any ideas ? Thanks. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: C5 x7 wipers new problem
My initial reaction is you have an intermittent wiring fault causing lt or maybe the passenger side secondary motor is faulty causing a bigger load on the circuit and then the ECU cutting out. As you have replaced the master motor I'd suggest a full check of all the connectors and the resistance of the motors.
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

How old is the battery?

Battery is only 15 months old but I do have suspicions about it.

I’ve just checked. It’s actually 2 years old netxtcweek. But has a 5 yr warranty. Will check it in the morning.

Re: C5 x7 wipers new problem
An update.
I have checked the battery. Says it’s good but needed recharging. Recharged it fully. Put back in the car. No different. Drivers side Wiper still in park (vertical)position, passenger in rest. Checked alternator. That charging fine. Have been for several short ((15-20) min drives . But nothing changed. Still park and not responding to stalk. Last night went to car to retrieve something and was still in park position. This afternoon I went out and wipers had reset themselves ready for action. Do I have fairies in car or can anyone put a more sensible answer. I’m going to try and swap battery tomorrow as there is a slight loss of charge when it sits on bench with no drain.

Re: C5 x7 wipers new problem
Make sure you follow the battery disconnection process in the BSI reset procedure. This may be the root cause of your problem.

Right. I took the battery back and exchanged it under warranty. Followed carefully Paul’s instructions re BSI resets etc. I now have a key fob that does what it’s supposed to in that car locks and unlocks and electrical boot opens (bonus)….. but the wipers refuse to budge from rest position. Sob .

Re: C5 x7 wipers new problem
Final update. The auto electrician checked the wiring. No breaks. Wipers refused to work for 6 days. Then I had 3 days when they worked perfectly. Nothing was done to them. They just decided to work. ( they were 3 warm days) In the end decided to risk all and purchased a new Slave(passenger) motor which fixed the issue. It is noticeable that nearly all the second hand wiper motors are driver side. This suggests that there is an inherent instability in the slave/passenger side.

Re: C5 x7 wipers new problem
This is a well known issue, because the water is coming inside the slave wiper motor.
The best way to prevent this, is to open this one and use silicone or an other sealant.
