Me and My GT

Unread post by John Pankhurst »

Hello to all. My history with Citroens is not very long, I had a '87 BX GTi many years ago and had many happy years making full use of the comfort and performance until I decided, as the kids has grown up and were off to uni, I would fulfil my ambition to own a Mini Cooper, so a lovely three year old flame red pocket rocket came into my life. I had that car for thirty years but the memory of the bright red GTi lingered and the possibility of owning another BX was always at the back of my mind. Eventually the Mini became a second car and went through a couple of refreshes before I decided it needed a proper looking at and a three year re-built resulted in a car I was once agin proud to own, but in the three years that followed the odometer only increased by a couple of hundred miles. Time to rethink the 'fleet' The Mini was sold to a nice chap who gave it to his wife as a birthday present (lucky lady), I then had the funds available to hunt around for a BX
In the months leading up to the sale of the Mini there seemed to be plenty of suitable cars around but with funds in the bank the supply suddenly dried up :? But as luck would have it Richard (Kitch) Kitchen was selling his Mk1 TRS but when I enquired I was third in the queue and missed out on the car. Disappointed I asked Kitch to let me know if he came across any others - "My Dad's GT might be for sale' he said, "I'll have it" I said. So after (very) brief negotiation I became the latest custodian of DKK a most gorgeous '85 BX 19 GT in Bleu Romantique and the pictures did not disappoint.
The car was transported from Fareham and arrived in Cheshire on a misty November evening in 2023 and took pride of place on the drive in front of my Morris Minor Traveller and Commer campers. I've been retired for a few years so have plenty of time to dedicate to my vehicles but the BX is always the first choice.

That looks to be a very nice example John, superb cars in every way, I owned a 19 TRS Estate and then my secret lust the 16V which was a genuine pocket rocket although you did need a larger pocket!! :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

It is superb, Kitch did a full restoration over six years and it is totally solid with a perfect underbody. Just a few glitches, which I expected of a car that's done just shy of 200,000 miles and still singing along.
