C5X7 HDi240: Difficulty removing Eolys Additive Tank 1500NK

Unread post by marsalek »

Dear colleagues,

I need to replace my Eolys tank because the additive pump is throwing an "open electrical circuit" fault. I am currently stuck trying to remove the old tank. One of the hoses (Air vent tube 6 in the diagram) runs above the diesel tank and becomes inaccessible. I cannot reach the connection with my hand, even after lowering the diesel tank by approximately 5 cm.

Does anyone know the trick to reaching or disconnecting "Air vent tube 6"?

Second question: While removing the bottom cover, I snapped two rusted M6 threaded studs that were welded to the chassis. Is it acceptable to drill these out and install threaded rivet nuts (rivnuts) in their place?

I can't offer any advice on the pipe I'm afraid but your idea of replacing the welded nuts with rivetted ones should do the job I would have thought! :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I had the same problem as you and gave up trying to disconnect from top of fuel tank - as you say, it's not accessible even after lowering the fuel tank as far as possible without removing the exhaust.
I left the pipe attached above the fuel tank and just pulled it off the nipple on the EOLYS tank instead(then refit is reverse of removal, as they say).

Hi Iain,
thank you for your reply! You are right, the tank hangs now on the exhaust. I think your solution is THE WAY TO GO! At the end the pipe is only the air vent. I will check, how snug the pipe sits on the old nipple. Hope it will stay tight enough...

That will work, with two small cautions. I know it sounds obvious, but,

Be careful where you are drilling!
If would be worth checking where those positions are on the interior, as you'll need internal space for the rivnut and bolt to protrude above the floor on the inside. You don't want to have a rivnut sticking up somewhere visible.

I did something similar removing an undertray on my berlingo, and opted to cable-tie it in place to something else. Small hole in the plastic panel was just easier for that.

And now the proper solution with the Air Vent tube Nr. 6:

It was easy as...
Just remove the Eolys tank from the fixation points and move slightly towards the air vent tube. Push the tube upwards and it slides easily out from the protrusion in the diesel tank.

But the method by Iain is a very functional workaround, if anything fails.

Iain, you have probably run into the same trouble. I poured the Eolys from the old tank to the new one. In Diabox I went to "repair" and after selecting the tank and the compulsory "activation" the car's ECU thinks, the eolys tank is full, i.e. contains 1800 ml, after purging now exactly 1796 ml. How to tell the system, the actual quantity of the additive?

Ah, I filled my new tank with new fluid, so I didn't have that problem - I just reset it to full (because it was) so I can't help on that front I'm afraid!
