2011 C5. The central section of the main panel, selectable speed and data screen shuts off at random times. It is occasionally possible to read the data/speed screen but unilluminated. Mainly it just shuts down. messages will still display normally as do the other screens. It is quite random and does not always return after ignition shut down and or a period of 'sleep'. Nor does cycling through the menu for the screen.
Were this my old XM I would suspect the connections along the bottom of the display, is the C5 display a plug in screen of a similar type? Just trying to gather a few pointers before I pull the instument panel.
If i have to pull the panel I would want to play with a spare one first if anyone has one available I could buy.

I had a problem with my X7 instrument display a few years ago and I ended up replacing it with a S/H one. You might find my posts about this helpful.

Sadly, this dashboard display unit developed a different (but similar) fault a short while later but it only makes a few lines unilluminated which means that MPG figures can't be read properly. I haven't bothered doing anything about it for the moment.
