Hello,
I own a 2011 2.0 HDI hydractive 3+ C5. I had heavy steering. The heaviness of the steering wheel was increasing when the weather temperature goes up 15 degrees. After a while went off completely. It does not turn at all. There is steering wheel faulty on the screen.
- Battery changed
- Alternator regulator checked. Bearing and brushes were changed before the steering completely went off.
- LDS replaced and no air bubbles in the system. I followed all the bleeding procedure as suggested by Marc.
- I took off the steering pump and saw the mosfet wires broken. I sent the pump somewhere to repair it waiting for response whether it will be repaired or not. During this period I bought a second hand same code steering pump. Both has (original and the second hand one) the same code which is 9673017080. I mounted second hand steering pump but there is still fault on the dash. Most probably the ECU of the second hand pump does not match with the car’s BSI.
- Power pin is 14,4 V while the car is running. Measured the voltage drope of - and + pins of the pump when I run the car. Goes down 10,5 V and put itself 14,4 within 3 seconds.
- CAN H and L is 2,3 and 2,7 V which is ok I believe. Resistence is 62,5 ohm between two wires.( white and green cables)
- CAN power brown cable provides 14,4 while the car is running.
I think the seller of the second hand pump sent me broken or unproper pump. He doesn’t accept and said that the pump was running. I suspected because the LDS intake and exit position was wrong. I had to turn it 90 degrees to be able to mount the pump onto the car.
Do you have any suggestions? Is there alternative pump codes which is proper to my car?
When I conntected the diagnostic tool to the car I cannot reach the pump ECU.

Thanks for your support in advance.

I believe this is the correct diagram for your car but to be certain I need to know that you have electro-hydraulic assisted non variable steering and also your RPO number which is on the tyre pressure sticker on the door pillar. If you think this is the wrong pump come back with that information and I'll have another look!!

VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. I will send you the RPO number when I go to the car. I wonder will steering pump work if the plug pins are the same even if the pump codes are different? I think second hand pump was already broken and sent to me intentionally.

I'm afraid we don't have access to the Stellantis database at the moment so I cannot access your build sheet from the VIN. Thus I need to have the info I mentioned to check I am getting the correct diagram.

Then that is the wrong diagram that is for RPO 12292 onwards (which was my guess, out by 6!!) and yours is 12286 so I'll have another look!!

This is the correct one I believe!!
The only differences I can see are in the mounting bolt arrangement for the top bracket so I suspect the pump itself is the same!

So, how will I differentiate this code on the pump if I want to buy a second hand pump? Pin plug difference or something special codes on the pump as sticker? When I asked a dealer here to check through the VIN number they said that the pump is not available anymore in France.

Re: Citroen C5 2.0 HDI 2011 Power Steering Faulty
I checked the 400828 part number and the advertisements show me 9673017080(TRW A0018267) same with the pump number on my car. The problem is that I can’t find the same number second hand pump in Turkey. Also I learned today, the pump repair service told me that the original pump is unrepairable. Power mosfet blown off. There is damage on the driver.
I can not order the parts abroad because there are custom regulations and the limit is 30€ only including shipment.
I do not know what to do know. If I can find a company which can bring spare parts from other companies or waiting for a pump on sale here.
Thanks for your support a lot.

The only suggestion I can make is for you to take a drive into Bulgaria or Greece and collect a pump yourself if you can find one

I have a relative from Bulgaria. I have already got in contact with him and sent the part number. He is looking for the proper pump to send me
I appreciate that you have allocated time to help me out fixing this issue.
As I understood overall this conversation, any pump apart from 4008 28 is not going to work on my car right?

I can't say that for sure but I would think that getting the matching one is the safest option. Good luck.
