i read all the info on here and cant find out if you need to leave the lid on the lds fluid container or not when bleeding out air from the rear after spheres change

It's always safer to slacken the lid so that the pressure is equalised between inside and outside the reservoir. No need to completely remove it though. Don't forget to nip it back up when you've finished.

It is highly recommended to remove it, and once you have finished, remember to tighten it firmly.

You can leave the lid of the LDS container open by about a quarter turn without any problems. I have been doing this with all my cars for 20 years (C5I; C5 R; C5 X7; C6).

Generally speaking, this is a better solution than removing the cap completely. If oil leaks out, it won't contaminate the engine cover, but will simply flow under the car.

f the LDS level is approximately correct, oil will never leak out.

The biggest oil leakage problem occurs when the vehicle is raised on a platform and is not in the highest position. The control unit is then fooled and opens all return lines – when the wheels are lowered and touched down, the entire LDS flows back into the reservoir.
Sometimes it then overflows (it should be open) – or it can leak if the cover is not open.

If the vehicle is raised to its highest position and lowered, nothing ever happens. It is usually garages that work incorrectly.
