C5 X7 auto gearbox permanent sport mode

Hello,

New C5 X7 owner here.

Is there a way to make the AM6 gearbox remember the sport mode after engine shutdown (like the suspension does)? I looked a bit in Lexia but couldn't find any option for that.

Bonus question:
Would it be posssbile to reverse the manual operation mode: pull back for gear up, push forward for gear down?
For sure this is not available as a configuration option but the control seems electronic so maybe switching two wires in a connector should do it?
Anyone tried something like that?

I wouldn't like to say for certain on either question but I am pretty sure the gearbox controls are fairly finicky at the best of times so I wouldn't advise trying to alter them around as you would have a good chance of messing up its control.

From page 67 of the handbook:

Remark: The driving mode
selected before you switched off
the engine will be retained the next
time you start up.

Regarding flipping the direction of the manual control, I've considered it too. However, the gear stick actually has a mechanical cable linkage that goes to a rotary switch on the top of the gearbox ECU. Flipping the stick motion for manual control isn't as simple as flipping a pair of connector pins. I had the same train of thought as you, but gave up when I found out there was a linkage.

Unfortunately, in the user manual for 2011 https://service.citroen.com/ACddb/index.html, the year of my car, that remark is no longer there, which is consistent with the behaviour. I put it in sport mode, it is in sport mode when I turn off the engine. When I restart, it resets normal mode. Only the suspension remembers the setting between engine restarts.

Regarding the manual mode this is a quote from the first PDF you posted:

In position " M ", selection is effected by an electronic sensor located near the gear lever : The variation in flow needed to tilt the sensor
cells is obtained by a magnet located on the lever opposite the cells, causing changes in status.
The information is transmitted to the ECU from the gearbox.

Indeed the mechanical cable might select between modes P, R, D, but I suspect that the M and D are the same thing, the difference being that in D the computer decides when to change gear, in M it waits for the electronic input. Further proof that the M and D are almost the same is that the user manual states that, in M mode, the computer can override and change without manual input or reject a gear change input, so there should not be anything mechanical from stoping it to have control full control over the gearbox.

If the vehicle stops or reduces
speed (for example when approaching a stop sign), the gearbox changes down automatically
to first gear.

A request to change gear is accepted only if the engine speed
permits it.

But yeah, you guys are right, it's probably not the type of car for which is worth the trouble of improving the manual control of the gearbox.

The C5 is a car that has been progressively stripped of features with every year. I didn't think that they'd mess even with setting memory.

Regarding the documents, I'll admit, I didn't actually read it. Back when I first looked into it (and was put off) I only had access to the parts diagram from some random site. I hadn't gotten my hands on all the documentation. So, yeah, you're probably right in your deductions regarding D and M.
