Citroen C4 2022 BT/Android Auto problem

Post by SkazzY »

I have a very weird problem, which may or may not have anything to do with the car itself, but I though to ask in case someone had a similar thing happen to them.
Basically whenever I connect my phone to the car either via cable with Android Auto or via bluetooth, my calls (phone calls, whatsapp, teams, any call) gets immediately forcibly disconnected as soon as it starts (literally instantly). Everything else is working perfectly fine (I can listen to music, open maps etc), but not calls. I tried turning off battery optimizations but that did not help. Any idea how to fix this?

The trouble with this sort of thing is you never know if it's the car or the phone settings that's at fault.

A simple thing on the phone (might depend a bit on version of Android) when you are away from the car and not connected to it is to open settings, Bluetooth and look at the list of paired devices, Citroen xxxx should show up. Tap the settings gearwheel next to it and see if the phone and SMS slider options are on.

On my wife's C3 2017 even when connected by cable it uses Bluetooth for all the non map stuff so Bluetooth settings are relevant however you connect. My C4 is a bit later than yours and does it all wirelessly once set up.

If your phone is set correctly, I would connect it in the car car and have a search around in devices (On my C4 you swipe down from top of screen to see a shortcut). There may be selectable settings if you tap on the device name. Maybe also look at privacy settings on the car, not sure how any of it is supposed to work but I guess you could lock it all down so it speaks to no one.

Do you have any other devices in the car or nearby that use Bluetooth? Dash cam for instance. If so turn it off and see if the problem persists

I guess the next step would be to get hold of another phone, pair it and see if it performs as it should.

If you've tried all those things, sorry to go over old ground, not sure what I would do next.

I’d separate the media side from the call side here. If music and maps work but every call drops instantly, the car may still be keeping a bad phone/call profile even though the Android Auto session looks fine.

I’d remove the phone from the Citroen’s Bluetooth/phone list first, then forget the Citroen on the phone as well. After that, restart the phone, leave the car off for a few minutes, and pair again from the car screen. Before opening Android Auto, test one normal Bluetooth call and one music playback session, just to see if the basic call/media profiles are switching correctly.

The bit I’d focus on is not just “is Bluetooth connected”, but whether the correct call profile is being rebuilt on both sides , https://thefixcar.com/symptoms/bluetoot ... ng-to-car/ covers that phone-plus-head-unit cleanup order, and it fits this case because the media side can work while the call side is the one failing.
