Hi everyone,
Maybe this is an already discussed topic, but I couldn't manage to find an issue similar to mine.
So I have a 2014 Citroen C5 2.2hdi and I bought it with 198.000km on it. Seemed the previous owner in Switzerland did not change the gearbox oil. The car had an issue jolting forward sometimes when selecting Drive. Also when cold, it would flare up and jump forward when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear and it would also thump when changing down 5-4. I had the oil changed and the jolt when selecting Drive disappeared. Also changing down 5-4 is much less noticeable.
The only issue remaining is the big flare and jump forward when changing from 2-3 when the car is cold. If you drive it for a few minutes and it heats up the changes are good.
Anyone experienced this issue? There is no fault with the gearbox showing up on the diagbox.
It might be the valve block body but I am not too sure about it and there is really no specialist that can diagnose the problem.
If the issue is the valve block body do I hust replace it or can I repair it on my own?
Thank you all
C5 gearbox issue

Re: C5 gearbox issue
Welcome and Hi, not sure but, I would assume with the mileage and that the oil had never been changed that the valve block could very well be worn, I started to notice mine, 3rd -4th change, going at around 60,000 miles
Realistically, I think you may find getting the parts to repair it difficult. So, you may be better off getting a low mileage one from somewhere, but even that could be difficult.
Aa note, I understand that the gearbox was fitted to other cars, Volvo, Peugeot, Ford...... so it may be worth hunting their parts bins, but there were slight ifferences.

Re: C5 gearbox issue
When the oil was changed, was a machine used that can extract all the oil from gearbox? If not, was oil changed using the "drain and and replace what you can" system three times over a short period of time? In either case, was a suitable diagnostic machine used to reset the gearbox ECU so that it could learn that there was new oil in the box?

Hi Paul,
The method "drain and replace" was used and I reset the gearbox oil counter using Diagbox.

Re: C5 gearbox issue
If only partial oil changes are carried out after approximately 200,000 km, three partial oil changes are certainly not enough. I did this with my 2014 C5 at around 130,000 km, and it was only after the fifth partial oil change that the oil colour became sufficiently red. Only the sixth partial oil change was optimal.
The total amount for the partial oil change was 20 litres.
A professional transmission oil flush requires similar amounts.
Of course, it is also important to use the right oil, and during the last change, it is essential to follow the procedure for the correct oil level.
Those who drive without these changes, which are strongly recommended by transmission manufacturers (every 50-60,000 km), have a lifetime fill – correctly, this is about 180,000 km per ‘car life’. Without a partial oil change or flush, most automatic transmissions last around 180-250,000 km – with a change, they easily last twice as long. This seems to bother PSA – hence this recommendation.

Re: C5 gearbox issue
Oil amount changed was approx. 10 liters. We used the correct specified oil for this gearbox amd also the levelling procedure was followed correctly. Today I also added half a liter of oil and levelled again to check the color of the fluid, which was pretty dark after around 15k kilometers. I don't know if this gearbox has an issue or it just needs to clean itself up with a couple or few more oil changes

Re: C5 gearbox issue
The only thing to do is to try another 3 partial oil changes.
However, an oil change cannot repair a transmission defect, e.g. worn shift valve, etc.

Re: C5 gearbox issue
That is what I am trying to diagnose. If the issue is the hydraulic body or anything else. But these parts are expensive to change so I can't use the elimination method.
