Im the vehicle tech for a construction firm and our fleet constist or relays 2017- present im looking for a bit of advice towards a one of our vans
Just before christmas the vehicle overheated and was recovered it turned out that the plastic cooler bolted to the egr had a stress crack along the calsing line and the the electric thermostat was leaking the person driving hadnt notice the vehicle loosing water
I fitted a new egr complete with cooler and replaced the thermostat housing but when tring to bleed the system afterwards the system was pressurised after around 1 min of running so after removing the coolant cap and restarting the vehicle it looks to a faint amount of steam bubbling from the headertank and slight bubbling of the coolant
Im looking for abit of advise towards this do i just write it off as a blown head gasket/warped cylinder head or could the egr be faulty or could the vehicle be massivley air locked as i removed the radiator pack to do the job and bearly any water was in the system and when refiling it bearly took any antifreeze mix to fill the system from empty (around 2 litres) i should also note the the steam/smoke for lack of a better term didnt smell like normal exhaust gasses it just smelled like fresh antfreeze

Interesting situation - I like plugging in questions into Chat GPT and see what comes out. Here's your question and route to fixing the problem.

Looking at other articles on the net, it seems these vans do have a knack to getting them to fill to completion. If the total volume of coolant used is 2L and the target volume is around 8L, then it seems an airlock or other obstruction is preventing the vehicle from being filled properly hence the symptoms described.
Hope this helps!
NB I should add that AI is often wrong / misguided, so you should satisfy yourself as to the fitness of the information given and whether it is actually correct before taking action.

To check the head gasket you should check the coolant tank for combustion gases - kits do not seem to cost much at less than £20.
