Identifying snow sock size for C4 2022

Unread post by SkazzY »

I have a 2022 C4, and this is the first "real" winter we will be spending together.
I was looking into buying a set of snow socks instead of chains (I never go anywhere where I need either of these, but better safe than sorry), but I could not find any size chart that fits my wheels (stock 195 60 R18).
I could not find any socks anywhere online (at least not in Serbia).
Any recommendations as to which size to take from the attached table (if any of them would actually be a fit)?

I suggest large but do your own calculation.

205/55 18 is within 1,25% of the circumference of 195/69 18 and is listed as "large" in your table.

You can look here, the first 'find a tyre' option doesn't work for our sizes, but calculator 2 does.

Yeah, large seems like the closest one, I'll probably go with that one.
In the mean time, if anyone else had a similar situation, feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

215 55 R18 (forst XXL size) seems like an even closer fit, but bigger diff in bidth, so I expect I would have problems there, so I'll go for the large. If I ever get in a situation to actually use them, I'll "report back" with findings.

I would guess that I can apply the same size estimation for traditional chains as I did with socks (since those also don't come in my size :/)?

Yes…but. Take care and read any information in the handbook. I recall one of my SAABs warning against snow chains, when I asked my very good local dealer he said that it wasn’t about diameter, where the chain comes around the sidewall there was a possibility it could foul a brake pipe on full lock and that’s why the handbook said no. I had something else that said 7? mm low profile chains only for the same reason. Our tyres aren’t low profile wide so chains should be OK but check.

I’ve just looked in the handbook, page 179 in mine but will differ, listed under s for snow not c for chains in the index.

It says Polarie pss 112 10mm for your tyre size. I’m sure the brand won’t matter but you could look that one up and get the specifications.
