Was there a C8 HDI engine without FAP/DPF?

Unread post by xj25vm »

As per title, does anybody know if there was a version of the C8 diesel engine without a DPF/FAP from factory? Searching around I get conflicting answers - some sources seem to think that some early 2.0Hdi engines with lower power output didn't have a DPF/FAP until the 2008 facelift - but I can't confirm if this is correct or not. Anybody knows please?

You might get an idea from this thread: :)

Some information here too:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Under Peugeot/Citroen:
All newer 2.2 HDi and 1.6HDi engines have FAP based DPF systems fitted as standard,
Statement can be read in a few ways, but just to give examples from cars I've owned:
2004 Peugeot 206 1.6 "GTi Hdi" (16v 110 bhp DV6) = DPF from new.
2007 Citroen C4 1.6 HDi LX (16v 110 bhp DV6) = no DPF from new.

I suppose the question is why to you want to know?

If looking for a new car, guidance about where to look to confirm if a DPF is fitted (e.g. on the 1.6 looking down the front of the engine, it's easy to spot the differential pressure sensing pipework (that only DPF cars have) if you know what to look out for.

Probably coming at the problem from the wrong direction, but if you could get the VIN details for a vehicle then you could look up its engine type. The 2.0HDi were DW10 engines, and the various different types had different emissions characteristics - they are listed here.......

The accuracy of the information on that page is a little questionable in places. I'm not even sure what do they mean by "all newer ...". For example I know reliably that all Xsara Picasso all the way until 2010 with the 1.6HDI engine and 92HP don't have FAP/DPF. Unless "newer" means after 2010.

I have a Xsara Picasso 2008 and a 2010, both with 1.6HDI with 92HP and they don't have a DPF. In the Xsara Picasso range, I am familiar with the fact that all 1.6HDI 92HP don't have a DPF, while the 1.6Hdi 110HP have a DPF. I'm just not sure what the situation is with the C8.
I suppose the question is why to you want to know?
I am considering buying a C8 - and I would really like to avoid a DPF + Eolys setup if at all possible. I know it isn't the end of the world, but it is one more headache to contend with - which I have done in the past on other vehicles.

I do - thank you - I've worked on the engine on my Xsara Picasso - which has the CAT in exactly the same spot where later 1.6HDI engines have the DPF - at the front of the engine.

Thank you for that. I am thinking of buying a C8 - so as it isn't my vehicle, I wouldn't have access to the VIN - until actually going to see the vehicle. I suppose I could make further inquiries after checking the vehicle out - but in case it is somewhere far away, I wouldn't want to travel all the way there just to discover it has a DPF

In case it helps anyone else, so far based on the two links below, the suggestion is that the 2.0HDI 120HP (code RHK) fitted in the C8 probably didn't have a DPF/FAP fitted until 2008 - or possibly later. In both places it is listed separately from the 136HP engine which is specifically mentioned as having a DPF/FAP:

Just as a note - the VIN contains the three letter code for the engine. In the case of my old C5, the VIN started V-F-7-R-D-R-H-F to indicate it had an RHF engine fitted.
