Knocking from rear of Xantia

Post by silverback »

I apologise for asking for help again.
My recently aquired Xantia Hdi has an intermittent knocking from the rear right wheel. This occurs usually when under load and is more pronounced when turning left.
However, there is no noise when travelling at a steady speed whilst the car has assumed a level posture.
Any thoughts would be gratefully received
Thanks.

1) Check the wheel cap [8D]
2) then check the wheelbolts [8)]
3) Jack up rear and remove offended wheel, then check the brake components.
4) Very likely to be an early symptom of the dreaded rear suspension arm pivot bearing wear - the most common problem on PSA cars.
Whatever : take it serious - have the problem investigated ASAP - as it tends to quickly grow expensive [B)]

Thankyou for your reply.
I was fearing the worst myself. However, the car was in the workshop to have an engine mounting changed so I asked Rob a local independant Citroen specialist to 'have a look'. It turned out to be a loose bit of plastic from under the wheel arch that was touching a wheel intermittently.
I think that the garage I bought the car from knew about the noise and came to the conclusion that it would be expensive to fix. Their mechanic must have realised that the noise didn't occur if the car was 'high' which may explain why my height corrector was set too high.
Perhaps I'm just paranoid!!!!
