Peugeot 308 eating oil

Asking for a friend.

He has a 2012 Peugeot 308 that needs refilling with oil approximately monthly.

The MOT garage just said it's a known Peugeot issue and weren't forthcoming beyond that.

Are there any workarounds?

I bet its the Prince engine? Is the engine consuming oil or is it leaking? Catalytic converter will be destroyed soon if it's consuming oil.

Problem will be valve stem seals and/or rings.

They can get oil thickening goop to reduce the consumption, but that may affect the operation of the valve timing.

Soz for not clarifying, this is a petrol model so it is the Prince engine (by wiki).

Can the valve stem seals/rings be replaced or would this be uneconomical?

You have not said how many miles are being done each month and how much oil is being put in, also the engine size.

We had a 1.4 vti petrol C3 and that used oil, I cannot remember how much but may have been a litre every 1000 to 2000 miles. This was from when got it on about 12000 miles and may have been like this from new. I did not do anything apart from keep an eye on the oil level since it was cheaper to buy the oil and the car was doing less than 10000 miles a year.

It's a 1.6 engine.
He is having to add half a litre of oil every 3 weeks.
The monthly mileage can be up to 1000 miles.

The cost of about 8 litres of oil a year may be a lot less than trying to fix something that might be normal for these engines.

On these engines the timing chain can wear and need replacing, our C3 needed it when on about 50000 miles but left it to the dealer as we traded it in for the Cactus.
