Which battery should I use? EFB or AGM?
I have a C4 SpaceTourer 2021 with a 1.5 HDi engine, EAT8 gearbox and start-stop system. Thanks.

If it still has the original battery there is likely a label on it with the battery type.

It's probably EFG original.

With it being a stop/start vehicle it should have an AGM battery but some S/S cars across the Stellantis range were released with EFB batteries, presumably because they had a temporary shortage of AGM ones. Then, when you check battery suppliers, you'll probably find that they recommend AGM.
The type of battery actually fitted should be recorded on the tyre pressure sticker and will say either AGM or EN. Post a photo if you're not sure.
As AGM is a better spec than EFB fitting one is an improvement and not depreciated.

If a different type of battery is put on I have read that sometimes it might need a diagnostic to tell the car.

That is true to get the best from an AGM. But you need a fairly high end code reader to check that out. My D8W doesn't, for instance, and I need to use my Diagbox for that.

This is what I mean by looking at the tyre pressure sticker.

Some further reading seems to indicate that later 1.5 BlueHdi vehicles come with EFB batteries rather than AGM. Don't know if that's still the case.

Just had a look at our 2019 1.5 hdi 308. Nothing on the tyre sticker (a bit disappointed after reading above) but it has the original Varta battery and the label on it gives EF 760A EN so not an AGM battery.

Never knew about the sticker, thanks Paul.
When I needed a new AGM for my Picasso S&S a few years back I found various online battery prices then called our then local Citroen Service dealer for a price. Surprisingly it was only about £10 more, fitted. I looked at all the stuff you need to move, the awkward lift to get it out etc. and thought that's a really good deal. You might not be as lucky but it's worth a phone call to ask.

That's useful info Paul!
Our C4 Pic is on its original battery which is now 85k miles old and entering its 9th winter..... need to stick the computer on it and see what it says the state of the battery is. It did however start no problem a few weeks ago at below -5 and despite having been stood for 4 days so it can't be that bad - but there was initially no PAS till it was turned off and back on, so there might have been a bit of low voltage going on.

I read somewhere that even if I install the same type of battery, newer cars always require a computer to verify that a new battery has been installed so that it charges properly and functions optimally. Is that true?

I think it was written about that in some posts. If the battery type is changed, then the battery type should be changed with the diagbox. If the same type is installed, nothing needs to be adjusted.
