Engine shuting intermitent

Unread post by Toni Citroen c5 »

My car is a Citroen C5 2001 2.0 HDi, and my problem is intermittent, the engine shutting down when it's warmed up, it just cuts out wthout any other symptoms. When it starts again it will start normally but will shut down again.
I changed many parts but the problem persists. Sorry for my English. Thank you.

I changed :
Fuel pump in reservoir
Fuel presure regulator
Crank sensor
Oil pressure sensor
Battery
No fault codes

Hi Toni and welcome to the FCF.

I understand that English is a foreign language for you but there are some mistakes in your post which may be misread by members. I am happy to run through it and correct them for you if that is ok with you? :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

The cam shaft sensor is another thing that might fail when hot.

Some early C5s had a bimetal strip in the fuel filter and if that failed it would prevent the car starting in cold weather but I do not know if it could also give problems when hot.

Hello,

Thank you everyone for your replies. Let me explain the issue more clearly.

At first, I suspected the battery because the problem started when the weather became very cold. However, after checking in more detail, several local mechanics suggested that the issue might be related to the fuel system, such as the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, or similar components. I replaced these parts, but the problem was not resolved.

I then borrowed a Lexia diagnostic tool to check for fault codes. No major faults were found, except for an IAT sensor fault (P0110). However, when reviewing the live data from the ECU, I noticed something unusual related to the injectors.

The problem occurs as follows: on the first cold start in the morning, the car runs normally for about 40 minutes. After turning the engine off, each subsequent start allows the car to run for only about 10 minutes before it shuts down again.

I have attached a photo from the injection ECU data for reference. Based on this information, could the injectors be causing the engine to shut down, or do you have any other ideas or suggestions about what might be causing this issue?

Thank you again for your help.

If you remove the fuel tank cap when it shuts off can you hear air being sucked in - if so the cap might be stopping air entering and causing a slight vacuum in the tank. An unlikely cause but easy enough to check.
