Hello,
I've followed the Ad-blue tank drama for a while, but need to muse on something.
I've had a c4 grand (2018) and had it serviced with a citroen dealer every year since.
I, touch wood, have not had any ad-blue issues and it had it's 7th year service back in June.
One reason I kept it getting main dealer services was to aid my case for ad-blue tank warrantee cover in case it failed. As far as I understand, Citroen are more likely to assist with costs if it has been main dealer serviced.
But, I am assuming, after this final "service year" ends, the warrantee cover also ends? Am I correct with that assumption, or does the warrantee also extend for the "8th year" after the eighth service?
Basically, when can I consider using a reputable third party garage, rather than the main dealer? (without impacting any potential cover with the ad-blue system)
Whilst they do what they need to service wise and the costs are not too much higher for standard things. I find dealing with them and their attitude loathsome.
Appreciate any thoughts.
Ad-blue warrantee - ends after 8 years?

If you have the 1.5 hdi engine they have given that an extended warranty of 10 years (or so many miles) so something else that might make you keep having dealer services.

It's the 1.6HDI. The engine I am fine with, it's the adblue system I am more concerned about
.
But as I said, is more the time period of any warrantee I am interested in. It is a straight 8 years in terms of car age, and that is it?

I can not imagine the extended warranty will be longer than 8 years and hence will not last until the car is 9 years old. The usual 3 year warranty on a new car as an example does not go beyond 3 years so any faults after 3 years you have to pay for. If you had a failure a few days after 8 years then Citroen might give a goodwill reduced payment to help but I would not count on it. On our Cactus a month or so after 3 years we made a claim on the 3 year warranty for a wheel where the lacquer had failed and Citroen gave a bit towards a new wheel and it was not covered by the corrosion warranty. At 8 years old we tried a claim on rust on the bottom of a door but they just ignored it despite every 2 years paying for the corrosion warranty checks.
If not already done I would add Wynn's crystal clean adblue additive when you fill up with adblue, costs about £10. This is supposed to stop crystals building up that can cause blockages.
