Having noticed that the pre-heat coil light does not illuminate when our C1 1.4HDI is started and having found fault code P1351, I have assumed that the glow plug relay has failed and I have ordered a Hella replacement. The OE Cartier does not appear to be available new now, sadly.
I located the original relay on the engine bulkhead, behind the fuel filter and fuse box, so I also assume that the filter will have to be removed to get proper access - so could some kind person please advise what the bleeding procedure is once the fuel filter is re-mounted? Am I right in thinking that the ignition must be at position 1 to allow fuel to be drawn around the system? And are there any tricks to operating the rubber bulb to ensure that the fuel lines are full?
Any and all guidance gratefully received - Solentview

Re: C1 1.4HDI fuel system and bleeding
For a bulb it will just need squeezing a lot, say 20 times and then see if the engine will start. No need to have the key in the ignition when using the bulb. I have no idea if the filter needs to be moved though. It is possible it might not be a relay fault and could even be wiring or glow plugs. How many miles has it done and what year is the car ?

Re: C1 1.4HDI fuel system and bleeding
The vehicle is 09 at 98k miles. I have just driven it half a mile or so into our local High Street and it ran VERY unevenly all the way, and then stalled as I was manoeuvring into a parking space - so I am beginning to wonder whether the injectors are also playing up. We had one injector replaced about two years ago.
So another question - can anybody advise what diagnostic gear is needed to check the performance of the injectors? We found the P1351 fault code using Snap On kit at a local one-man band, but I am not sure that Snap On is smart enough to find injector faults.
Yet again - any help gratefully received - Solentview

Don't worry about the glow plug code unless you live in Siberia. If you haven't got that code on a 10 yo PSA HDI you're in the minority. My 2.0 and 1.6 both have it and they start and run fine.
The Snap On kit should be able to read everything including 'live data' though there are probably different models at varying prices.

Re: C1 1.4HDI fuel system and bleeding
I have seen the code 1351 in numerous PSA diesels, I believe it is what is called a phantom code, re your poorly running C2 hdi (I loved mine, what a super little car, rusted too badly) fuel system pipework, all click to connect stuff can pull in air after being disturbed, mine came with spare pipework and filter body, its still in the garage if you need it, whenever I disturb these connections I always clean them and give the male ends a thin smear of grease when they go together, even a small bit of dirt can cause issues.
BXs since 1993 built 1.9 TZD turbo, got a S2 Xantia estate, brilliant car! 2013, Xantia HDI LX 110 2000 new car with 122,000, l C2 HDI Rusty rocket, C3 Picasso HDI new to me.

Re: C1 1.4HDI fuel system and bleeding
Just to round off this topic - after some very rough running, I eventually had the three remaining original injectors replaced and the 1.4HDI is now starting and buzzing along fine again(touch wood). The OE injectors are Continental, so I am told, and there is no repair/recondition solution. Replacement was a tad expensive, but at £20 pa Road Tax and 68mpg overall, the C1 is an excellent local runabout and I think it was/is worth putting in the effort to keep it on the road.
I am going to start a separate topic about an MOT advisory, and hope that someone can help. Thanks, everybody.
