1.6 HDI 16v Starter

My Dispatch has started playing up. When the engine is warm it sometimes only clicks when you try to start it. It hasn't blown the 20A fuse yet. This was exactly the same on my 2.0HDI which was the starter solenoid.
Everything I've read on here and elsewhere says access to the starter is a pig so I'm wondering if you can remove and replace the solenoid in situ?

I can tell you this engine in a 206 that access is poor.

I'd suggest a replacement starter and do a straight swap. Second hand starters available very cheaply - last one I bought was about £25 including delivery. Could strip that down and grease the internals / clean up commutator of the replacement ahead of the swap (that's what I did on the 206). I don't think trying to pull the solenoid off in situ would be much fun at all

From memory (of the job about 8 years ago!)
Alternator usual 8 mm and 13 mm nuts, mounting was I think 8mm Allen bolts, think a quarter inch drive ratchet (my Allen drive bits are 3/8" drive, so I used an adapter in the little ratchet) was best option.

Can be done without removing the long driveshaft. One of those see or reach jobs.

Nice (dry) barn definitely make it less unpleasant
