Citroen extended warranty

Unread post by garpat32 »

Weird one.

So I was looking to extend the manufacturer warranty before the car hits 3 years. No problem, go online and enter reg etc, the website recognises the car details but shows as "no product availability" under extended warranty

So I call the warranty team and they advised "can only extend in the last 3 months of the original one expiring" no worries I thought, I'll try again nearer the time.

So I was having a dig around and with the help of auto trader I entered a few random C5x reg numbers to see what happens.

Turns out that you can in fact extend anytime before the original 3 year one expires, but I've found that it will only let you do that with a non Phev. Every Phev reg I tried came back as the same, enter a non Phev that meets the criteria, and no issues, can extend online.

So I rang them again and they deny what I can see online, are adamant I'm wrong, and tell me to try again next month 🤣

I know not everyone is a fan of extended warranty, but it is a weird anomaly, or do they just not want to cover Phev's after the 3 years 🤷

Cheers for the update Gary, when I first got my car, I enquired about the extended warranty and I was told that I should contact them again within the last month of the manufacturers warranty expires.
Mine expires 22nd March 2026, so I'll be very interested to see how you get on. (2023 PHEV).

I did call again a few days later and used another reg from a Phev on auto trader that was in the last 3 months of it's initial warranty.

I mentioned that it isn't letting me extend via their website and they weren't interested, just said we can quote you now.

Was £340 for another year

Still interested - And what would that cover, or more to the point what it doesn't cover, and are you tied to Citroen Dealer Servicing?

Have a mate here in France with a C5 Aircross, around 80000km. Bought from our local Citroen dealer and took out extended warranty, cost about 350 euros, Started with a bad knock on front RH, Took it in, needed a front strut / shock absorber. Refused warranty said it was normal wear and quoted abot 1700 euros to put a pair on. We got a pair of Bilstien struts from autodoc for about 150 and I changed them, about an hour a side including swaping springs over..... Warranty not worth the paper

Must be a breakdown warranty then if wear and tear not covered. I had one for a Saab 9-5 and there were obvious signs the turbo was failing but to try and claim I had to pay for a garage to prove it was a breakdown so did not bother. 6 months later it did fail needing a new one but the warranty had run out. Similarly the steering rack started leaking but at both ends in one night. They did pay but only for a reconditioned one and wanted to fit the old track rod ends on - I paid the extra to get a new rack and ends.

1700 euros seems a lot for front shocks/struts. I replaced them on a C4 and the parts were not much off £100 from Citroen and took about 1 hour each side, the second side being a lot quicker having learnt on the other one.

As I said, not everyone is a fan of extended warranty.

I'm still thinking about it really while the car is still covered, but it's really just another type of insurance, it may never be needed

Yeh I seen the brochure and I'm not decided still

I do think it's really strange you can't extend the Phev online but no issues with the 1.2 🤷

Maybe, the PHEV is under licence from the Chinese, and could be the reason Stellantis dropped the PHEV option. Do you think it may be worth seeing if you can get warranty for the sister from Peugeot, just or if curiosity.🤔?

Spoke to my local dealer, £250 for it's next interim service in December (3 year 20k miles) but £650 for the next one 🤣 "because it's a hybrid"

I think the warranty can wait for now

The £250 one will be an oil/filter change and checks. The next one likely will be more filters, coolant change (or just a check) and brake fluid change plus the checks and anything the electric motors, etc might need. Might also be spark plug replacement. These hybrids do not seem to save any money compared to a petrol or diesel.
