Steering Squib

Unread post by Misha001 »

Hello,

I desperately need some help. I have been left in a disastrous situation for over a month. The airbag light came on in my Citroen Grand C4 Picasso 67 plate. Took it to the mechanic (this was last month), and he said i needed a steering squib. I thought i could source the part myself but it has been a nightmare. Citroen won't give me the part number. I ordered a part online and the courier allegedly lost it. I still haven't received my refund.
How do i get the part number and get my car sorted out?

Thank you!!

Have you got the diagnostic fault code which indicates what part might need replacing ?

No... The mechanic only said he will not open up the wheel again to get the part number just in case something goes wrong. I did not know this will come up on a diagnostic fault code.

Did the mechanic actually do a diagnostic or just guess it was the steering wheel air bag that was faulty ?

He didn't give me any details of how he found the issue but did say he opened it up and put it back...

There is a topic somewhere on the forum with people who are able to help with a diagnostic check but I could not find it. There might be somebody near you. Otherwise I would be tempted to pay for a diagnostic to confirm what is wrong, you might even need to do this at a Citroen dealer and then you have a choice of letting them fix it or trying yourself but it might still need a diagnostic to turn off the warning. Note that low cost code readers do not usually work on air bag systems so may not read these fault codes or reset them.
