Air Bag Warning light on 306's

Post by DavidG »

If this comes on it doesn't always mean that an air bag has failed. I have had two instances of the warning light coming on.
The first time it was the rotary connector behind the steering wheel which had gone open circuit (and was repairable).
The second time concerned one of the orange two pin connectors right underneath one of the front seats (right in the middle). These connectors are associated with the seat belt pre-tensioners. One had a bad contact - fixed with switch cleaner.
IMPORTANT - before touching these circuits it is vital to follow the safety instructions clearly defined in the Haynes manual. In particular, the battery must be disconnected for 10 minutes before doing anything!
