clonk on Xantia

Post by silverback »

Hi all
I have just replaced my 1.8 16v Xantia with a '99 2.0 Hdi.
I have an intermittent 'clonk' when accelerating, from the rear right hand side.
I have been told that the height corrector needs adjusting/replacing, because the rear sits too high.
Would this cause the clonk?

Hi Silverback
Does the internal height adjustment work OK?
Have you tried Citaerobics?
Is your LHM absolutely clean?
How much too high is the rear?

Hello uhn113x
Thanks for the reply.
The car moves up and down with the selector OK but sits about 4 inches too high at the rear.
I haven't looked at the LHM and I don't know what Citaerobics is, sorry.

Update!
The 'Clonk' has been tracked down to a split top engine mount, we think!
It's being changed today.
I hope this cures it.

Hi
Hope your engine mount cures it! Citaerobics - devised by our very own Anders - he describes it on a site somewhere but I cannot find it at the moment. Consists of raising and lowering the car several times, using the extreme settings (while stationary! [}:)]) This flushes out the height correctors. The linkage to the rear one may be crudded up with road dirt, or the plastic bit may have come off.
What, you bought an oleopneumatic Cit without looking at the colour of the LHM? Tsk...tsk... [;)]
Anything other than bright green, like creme de menthe, is serious bartering ammo or a reason to walk away!

Hi uhn113x
I have found Citaerobics on the site.
Nice One!
Yeah I am a bit embarassed about the LHM check. I just checked the levels.
Ooops!
My other Xantia and my old BX from years ago never gave me much trouble. Perhaps I was expecting a bit too much from my new purchase!
The Engine Mount has been changed and the Clonk has disapeared. There was virtually no rubber in the mount.
The car passed a MOT last week.
I despair sometimes!

Great - sor'ed, as they say round here [:D]
I don't think the engine mounting would have affected the MOT, but you'd think they might have spotted it and mentioned it - maybe not....
