NOX sensor and urea injector replacement issues

Unread post by mkmk »

Hi,

My van was showing the eml, service and adblue lights with nox sensor related codes. It then started producing acrid white ammonia type smoke from the exhaust. I pulled the SCR system relay and fuse to stop the smoke temporarily and noticed the urea injector looked a bit crusty.

I decided to replace both at once, same part numbers. vitesco nox sensor 9821121180 and 9801187080 urea injector from neo brothers.

After replacing the relay and fuse i then tried the initialisation of both under pack repair in diagbox 9.91 which worked without error. There are new codes relating to these two new parts and the codes refuse to go away. The eml, adblue and service lights remain with the 700 mile adblue countdown showing.

I’ve tried mixing the new and old parts to work out exactly what is going on. After clearing codes and rescanning (without driving):

original parts
- no codes

original nox, new injector
- p2047 13 control of the urea injector

new nox, original injector
- u029e 87 Emissions control can network (upstream nox sensor)
- u029d 87 Emissions control can network (downstream nox sensor)
- u010e 87 Emissions control can network (pump gauge module)

new nox, new injector
- u029e Emissions control can network (upstream nox sensor)
- u029d 87 Emissions control can network (downstream nox sensor)
- u010e 87 Emissions control can network (pump gauge module)
- p2047 13 control of the urea injector

Am i doing something wrong here? or is my cable/software from china the culprit or possibly even the parts?

This is a 2018 proace 2.0 DW10F engine which reports as a traveller in diagbox.

Any help would be great, thanks.

When you installed the new parts did you go on diagbox and inform the ECU that you had replaced the parts in the repair section? :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

yea i did, i think the option was named something like initialise downstream nox sensor and initialise urea injector. i did nox sensor first.

diagbox initially wouldn’t let be perform those unless the engine was up to temperature, i went for a drive, came back and it seemed to work fine.

you think those codes look like what would happen if i haven’t replaced parts correctly in diagbox?

Those codes do suggest that the ecu is not recognising the new parts. If it were me I would put it back as it was and clear the codes. Then replace the injector and initialise it in diagbox, run a scan If ok then replace the sensor and initialise that. :)

ok thanks i’ll give that a go 👍

I haven't got my Diagbox running to check if it's the same there but on my Xtool D8W there are different buttons to tap on for initialising and installing a new item. What's the difference? Dunno but see if it's the same for you.

sorry you’re right my recollection of what i did was wrong, i actually used replace parts / replace downstream nox sensor and replace urea injector. i then followed that up with service action / reinitialisation of the denox system when i saw that the codes weren’t clearing.

strangely i tried an older diagbox from psa-diag.fr which o think is 9.186 and it looks like that might’ve initialised the injector correctly.

i’m starting to wonder if the nox sensor is faulty, it came from ECP and looked brand new but the box had been opened before.

current codes that won’t go away:
