Had a call from a friend, the above car smokes white when first started, it then clears and runs fine for the rest of the day. After a stand of 1 or 2 nights, same thing. She went to Peugeot who have diagnosed an injector problem. 1800 euros to replace all 4. They didn't charge for the diag so she has no printout. So she's asked me for my opinion. I'll plug it in Monday or Tuesday and see what it says. Never heard of injector problems curing themselves after 10 mins? Cars done 160K kms, Full service in May incl. oil and filters and brakes. MOT June, looked at the emissions. 0.59 with a limit of 1.5. The car does 30 mile round trips a couple of times a week.
Any pointers?
Cheers

I think this chap explains it better than I can Pete, but the principles are the same. Does the engine have glow plugs?

Plugged it in without the engine running. No codes, well I did get P1351 but hey, so no codes. While I was there did an actuator test on the EGR, fine.
Started the engine, ran like a bag of spanners and puffed white smoke. Did stall after a couple of minutes but restarted OK.
Went to standard parameters and got this Never had to look at these before so it's all Greek to me, feed me knowledge please learned ones.
Cheers

Re: 2010 C1 1.4HDI rough starting
That does look to me like injector one may be overfuelling, certainly out of balance with the others. White smoke can be unburnt diesel, water vapour from head gasket failure or even condensation in the exhaust when it has been standing in cold temperatures but that should clear as the engine warms up. Also if the cylinder temperature is too low the diesel will not burn completely and produce white smoke when starting from cold. If the engine has glow plugs it could be a sign of a failed one. !!

Re: 2010 C1 1.4HDI rough starting
Thanks Mick, HDI's don't really need glow plugs like the old XUD's. The ones on my van and 407 don't work, no problems. It smokes white and smells of diesel, if revved a tad it fills the garage and hurts your eyes. It's just I have no idea what the numbers mean, or should be. I read through a lot of Darbuck's thread and couldn't glean anything.

Re: 2010 C1 1.4HDI rough starting
I'm afraid I don't know what the correct numbers should be but I do know that the injectors should all be within 1 or 2 of each other. Overfuelling will cause continual white smoke so I'd have that injector together with one of the 95 ones and have them tested for spray pattern etc.
