Hello everyone.
I have a Xantia II 1600 8v. The instrument cluster, by default, didn't have the gauge for oil temp. So, I manage to get one instrument cluster with the oil temp gauge in it. Everything works fine, so, I want to make the oil temp , to work , too.
If I find an oil temp sensor , from a model that has it, by default, can I plug it to the original wiring loom somewhere? Is there any plug that waits the sensor in the 1600 motor loom?
If not, I'll just have to install a wire running from the sensor to the instrument clustel.
Any information, is welcomed. Thank you in advance.

Re: Xantia oil temp sensor help
If you find a scrap car with the oil sensor fitted you will be able to see where the wiring goes into the loom and then look at that on your car and see if the wire is there?
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Re: Xantia oil temp sensor help
No. I'm just asking for any information for the oil temp sensor circuit, to manage how to do it. If the wire loom has any preinstalled wiring for this sensor, I don't have to install the wiring myself. But, I don't know that. Also, I don't know if the ECU is involved to this wiring, or if it connects directly to the instrument panel. If it goes through the ECU , I will not do it... Too risky...

Re: Xantia oil temp sensor help
On our X1 It's direct to instrument panel, two wires, one for the overtemp light and the other one for the gauge. The plug in the engine bay is light blue, should be located near the front edge of the oil pan, where the sensor should be screwed into the oil pan, heard it can also be sometimes tucked near the alternator? You'll have to look, some have it, some not, depending on what the french were feeling like. Or more likely dependant on your engine spec and the engine harness used, if it is a higher spec model or not.
If don't have the wires but you run the two wires into the cabin it should still work. Not that that's easy, the Xantia has basically zero holes in the firewall with easy access, only through the fender liner and into the door hinge cavity, then through the door wiring grommit inside the car I managed to run some wires, but I never want to do it again. I ran my subwoofer power through the rear fuel pump wiring hole.
On our car the gauge is rather useless in cooler weather (barely reaching 50C), I think because we don't have an undertray on it the cool air cools the sensor and it reads low (even replaced the sensor, no point in that though), I doubt the oil stays that cold. During summer it reads normal.
