Have a hum that gets louder the faster I go on the C5 X7. When I turn left it stops or gets quieter, when I turn right it stays the same.
Sound seemed coming from O/S/R (driver's side, rear right).
So I changed the wheel bearing, but the sound still persists.
I'm thinking it was the other side, and the sound just seemed to be coming from the side I changed.
I'm confused why turning left reduces the sound.
Any ideas of what else it can be?

This video might help you check the wheel bearings in case you got the wrong wheel.
By turning left the weight of the car lifts off the left side and puts it more on the right so going quieter turning left could suggest a left wheel bearing fault that could be front or rear.

But I think you're right, it prob was always the other side, I'm just an idiot.
I'll change it anyway as I bought 2 just in case I was wrong.
why?

I had a nasty hum and it turned out to be the rear tyres had serious cracks on the insides of the rims. Worth checking.davoxx wrote: 13 Oct 2025, 12:30 Have a hum that gets louder the faster I go on the C5 X7. When I turn left it stops or gets quieter, when I turn right it stays the same.

It was the other side wheel bearing, once i got the tyre off, the noise was very obvious. don't know if the way the tyre was hanging it was not putting pressure on the damaged sections.
why?

Also is the nut not 40mm instead of 41mm? it came off with a 41mm, but was a loose fit.
why?
